Airflow & Drainage Substrate Set
Perlite, pine bark and lava rock are supplied as separate ingredients for improving a dense potting mix. Mix them through the root zone of a suitable base soil; this set is an amendment, not a finished planting soil.
Our starting blend
Blend 2 parts perlite, 2 parts pine bark and 1 part lava rock. Add approximately 1 part of this blend to 3–4 parts existing potting mix.
Check the finished texture
Fine roots and small pots may need less coarse material. A pebble layer at the bottom will not correct dense soil above it.
